the first best thing that ever happened to me was when i was working my college job at a winery. i was assisting the winemaker, learning all of the wine jazz. i loved every minute of it. i even enrolled in courses for winemaking. apparently the owner did not know this was my position at his company, and upon finding out he chose to remove me from my position because "i was a 23 year old woman who should be focused on finding a husband - and that this took the skill of a man." word for word.
the second best thing that ever happened to me was when i was working my corporate management job, training an outside new hire with no college degree or background in the company to open a new location. it was three full weeks of training - me doing double my normal amount of work. i came to find out that my company was paying her more money than they were paying me - to do all of this for them. i'd worked there for three years at that point. i confronted them about this and their response was "well she was hired a different year than you were".
little by little my story line fell into place and kept me learning that no one was going to build my dreams for me. the thought of putting my time in the hands of someone else started to make me cringe. having to ask permission to take a day to spend with my family became an obsessively repulsive and confusing concept to me.
i believed in life. i believed that our lives are meant for us to live slowly and fully. how we spend our time is meant to be chosen by no one else but us. our dreams are are meant to be chased after and fought for. i believed in myself. and i believed that there was so much more that i had to offer than giving my all to someone else's dream - so here i am building my own, and i'm taking you with me to build yours!
through the thick of it h. dunphy studio was birthed, and like every biz should, is always growing, pivoting, and rioting for the freedom of all of your dreams.
